Celebrate Good Times!

Celebrate Good Times!

On August 19, 2009 Old Town Trolley Tours of St. Augustine celebrated their eighth anniversary of operations here in the city.  At the same time we bid a fond farewell to our retiring General Manager Denny Axlen and thanked him for all his years of service.

The OTT Anniversary Party is a fixture here in St. Augustine, even if we didn’t have it last year due to construction.  All our CAST, their families and our industry partners throughout the city are invited.  Attractions, hotels, restaurants, vendors and everybody else we can think gather together each to cook out, chill out and have fun.

What a Turn Out!

What a Turn Out!

Over 400 people from the St. Augustine community gathered at the Old Jail on San Marco Ave to eat, drink and be merry.  What a terrific way to wind down what has been a very busy summer (much to our delight)!  And a special thanks to all the CAST members who pitched into set up, clean up, cook and in general run around like mad all evening.  This party would not have been possible without all your help.  Thank you!

The evening kicked off with food.  Lots and lots of food.  Trolley Conductors Mark Spindle and Jay Friend manned the grill from mid-afternoon onward turning out hundreds of burgers, bratwursts and hot dogs.  Aunt Kate’s Restaurant in Vilano Beach provided pulled pork and coleslaw.  Sonny’s Bar-B-Que dished up corn, baked beans and pasta salad.  The Saint Augustine Independent Restaurant Association (SAIRA) generously provided a succulent dessert table while the San Sebastian Winery made sure that there was plenty to drink.  Director of Operations Ed Swift and his wife Cara rounded out the spread with a hearty contribution of green bean salad and 3-Bean Salad.  With all this food, it’s a wonder anyone could move at the end of the evening.

As per tradition, our entertainment was provided by the Triple Rock Blues Band.  Triple Rock has played all of our parties and we look forward to seeing them every August.  From smooth background music during the first part of the evening to a rollicking cover of Elvis’s “Jailhouse Rock” (our unofficial theme song), the Triple Rock Blues Band kept all of us upbeat for hours.

The highlight of the evening was of course our farewell to Denny.  Not that any of us are please to see him go.  On the contrary he will be missed greatly.  But having the principle owners of the company, Ed Swift III and Chris Belland present for the send-off made it all the more special.  Denny was toasted in fine style by both of these two gentlemen, as well as the Leadagement team here in St. Augustine.  In addition the speeches, Denny was presented with 12 beer glasses, in honor of his 12 years with Historic Tours of America.  Each glass was inscribed with a “Dennyism”, collected from his many years with us and read out by the team for all to hear.  Denny you may be gone but you will certainly not be forgotten.  May the next step be everything you want it to be, as you travel the world and enjoy your retirement.  Fair winds and following seas.  We will miss you.
